Exciting Changes to Our Worship Service!

Guys, we've got some exciting news about our worship services! After months of prayerful consideration and discussion, we're implementing some changes aimed at making our services even more engaging and accessible to everyone. Starting next Sunday, we'll be introducing a new contemporary music set alongside our traditional hymns. We believe this blend will create a more dynamic worship experience, appealing to a wider range of musical tastes within our congregation. Also, we're adding a new interactive element to the sermon – think Q&A sessions and small group discussions – to help us delve deeper into the message and connect it more personally to our lives.

But wait, there's more! We're also revamping our children's ministry during the service. We're introducing a new curriculum that's designed to be both fun and educational, teaching our kids about God's love in a way that's relevant to their lives. We understand that change can sometimes be unsettling, but we truly believe that these updates will enhance our worship experience and allow us to connect with God and each other in new and meaningful ways. We encourage you to come and experience these changes firsthand. We're confident that you'll find something to love! If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to Pastor Emily or any member of the church council. We're always open to feedback and committed to making First Lutheran a welcoming and inclusive space for all.

Volunteer Opportunities Abound!

Are you looking for a way to give back to the community and connect with fellow church members? Look no further! We have a plethora of volunteer opportunities available, catering to a wide range of interests and skill sets. Whether you're passionate about working with children, have a knack for organization, or simply enjoy lending a helping hand, we have a place for you. Our Sunday school program is always in need of enthusiastic volunteers to assist with teaching and activities. If you have a heart for service, consider joining our outreach team, which regularly organizes food drives, visits to local nursing homes, and other community support initiatives.

And that’s not all! Our hospitality committee is looking for friendly faces to help with greeting visitors and serving refreshments after services. If you're a whiz in the kitchen, we'd love your help with preparing meals for our monthly potlucks or baking treats for special events. No matter your talents or availability, we can find a volunteer opportunity that's the perfect fit for you. Volunteering is a fantastic way to not only make a difference in the lives of others but also to deepen your own faith and build lasting relationships within our church community. To learn more about our current volunteer needs and sign up, please visit our website or contact Sarah in the church office. We can't wait to welcome you to our team of dedicated volunteers!

Upcoming Events

Mark your calendars! Here’s what’s coming up at First Lutheran Church. Don't miss out on these opportunities for fellowship and growth.

Fall Festival – October 27th!

Get ready for some autumn fun! Our annual Fall Festival is just around the corner, and it promises to be a day filled with laughter, games, and delicious food for the whole family. This year's festival will be held on Saturday, October 27th, from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM on the church grounds. We'll have all the classic fall activities you love, including a pumpkin patch, hayrides, face painting, and a costume contest. Kids can enjoy carnival games, a bouncy house, and arts and crafts activities, while adults can browse our craft fair, featuring local artisans and vendors.

But the fun doesn't stop there! We'll also have a bake sale with homemade goodies, a chili cook-off, and live music throughout the day. And of course, no Fall Festival would be complete without a delicious barbecue lunch. All proceeds from the festival will go towards supporting our youth ministry programs, so come out and have a great time while making a difference in the lives of our young people. We're also looking for volunteers to help with various aspects of the festival, from setting up and running games to serving food and cleaning up. If you're interested in volunteering, please sign up on the church website or contact Michael in the church office. We can't wait to see you there!

Advent Workshop – December 1st

Prepare your hearts for the Christmas season with our annual Advent Workshop! This year's workshop will be held on Sunday, December 1st, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM in the fellowship hall. This is a wonderful opportunity to create meaningful Advent decorations for your home, learn about the history and traditions of Advent, and spend quality time with your family and church community. We'll have a variety of craft stations set up, where you can make Advent wreaths, ornaments, and other festive decorations.

All materials will be provided, and experienced instructors will be on hand to guide you through each project. We'll also have a special Advent devotional time, where we'll reflect on the meaning of the season and prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. This is a great way to slow down during the busy holiday season and focus on what truly matters. A light supper will be provided. This event is free and open to all, but registration is required. Please sign up on the church website or contact the church office by November 24th to reserve your spot. We hope you'll join us for this special event as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior!

Community Outreach

Discover how First Lutheran Church extends its love and service beyond its walls, making a tangible difference in the local and global community.

Supporting the Local Food Bank

As a church, we're deeply committed to addressing food insecurity in our community. We believe that everyone deserves access to nutritious food, and we're proud to partner with the local food bank to help make that a reality. Throughout the year, we organize regular food drives to collect non-perishable food items for the food bank. We also provide financial support to help them purchase fresh produce and other essential items.

But our involvement goes beyond just collecting and donating food. Many of our members volunteer their time at the food bank, helping to sort and distribute food to those in need. We also work to raise awareness about the issue of food insecurity and advocate for policies that will help to address it. We encourage everyone in our congregation to get involved in this important ministry. You can donate food items, volunteer your time, or simply spread the word about the food bank's services. Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of our neighbors who are struggling with hunger. Check the bulletin board in the narthex for a list of current needs and upcoming volunteer opportunities.

Mission Trip to Guatemala

This summer, a team from First Lutheran will be traveling to Guatemala to partner with a local organization that provides education and healthcare to underserved communities. This is an incredible opportunity to put our faith into action and make a tangible difference in the lives of others. The team will be spending two weeks in Guatemala, working on a variety of projects, including building a new school, providing medical care, and teaching English classes.

We're currently seeking donations to help cover the costs of the trip, including airfare, lodging, and supplies. If you're interested in supporting our mission trip, you can make a donation online or send a check to the church office. Please make sure to indicate that your donation is for the Guatemala mission trip. We're also looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and preparation activities. If you're interested in getting involved, please contact Pastor Emily. We believe that this mission trip will be a life-changing experience for both the team members and the people they will be serving. We're grateful for the opportunity to partner with our brothers and sisters in Guatemala and to share God's love with them.

Bible Study: The Gospel of John

Deepen your understanding of the scriptures with our weekly Bible study group. We're currently studying the Gospel of John, exploring its themes of love, light, and life. This is a great opportunity to connect with other believers, ask questions, and gain new insights into God's word. The group meets every Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM in the library.

No prior Bible study experience is necessary, and all are welcome! We encourage you to bring your Bible, a notebook, and an open mind. We'll be using a study guide to help us explore the text, but the focus will be on discussion and personal reflection. If you're looking for a way to grow in your faith and connect with others in a meaningful way, we invite you to join us for Bible study. Contact David for more information.

Prayer Group

Find strength and solace in prayer with our weekly prayer group. We meet every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM in the chapel to lift up our joys and concerns to God. This is a time to pray for our church, our community, and the world, as well as for personal needs and concerns. All are welcome to join us, regardless of your prayer experience.

Whether you're a seasoned prayer warrior or new to prayer, you'll find a supportive and welcoming environment in our group. We believe in the power of prayer, and we've seen God work in amazing ways through the prayers of our group. If you're looking for a way to connect with God and others in a deeper way, we invite you to join us for prayer group. Your presence will be a blessing! Reach out to Mary for details.
